Celebrating the International Triumph of Puebla's Mezcal: A Proud Moment for Cinco Flores

We at Passport Destilados are thrilled to share some exciting news from the world of mezcal, a spirit that embodies the rich heritage and vibrant flavors of Mexico. Puebla's mezcal recently made an outstanding performance at the prestigious "México Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles (CMB) 2023," bringing home a total of twelve medals. This remarkable achievement includes one Grand Gold, seven Gold, and four Silver medals, showcasing the exceptional quality of mezcal produced in Puebla.

During a press conference, Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, the state governor, and Ana Laura Altamirano, head of the Secretariat of Rural Development (SDR), announced this significant accomplishment. They highlighted that 28 mezcal labels from Puebla participated in this international contest held in Mérida, Yucatán, where they were evaluated by world-renowned specialists.

The "Arráncame la Vida" brand, particularly its "Cacaya" label, garnered the highest recognition, being rated as the best mezcal in Mexico overall. This achievement is a testament to the global standard set by the competition, known for its stringent evaluation of wines and spirits.

The Gold medal winners from Puebla included Los Fuertes Arroqueño, Los Fuertes Ensamble Reserva de la Biósfera, Joya de los Cerritos, Arráncame la Vida Espadilla, Tesoro de Atlapulco, Las Ruinas Tepestate, and La Atlixquense Espadín Madurado. The Silver medals were awarded to Huichichiqui Potatorum, 11 Latidos Papalometl, Kuini Xaa Cimarrón, and Orgullo Poblano. These brands received accolades from the state's executive for their exceptional craftsmanship.

In an effort to support local producers, the Government of Puebla sponsored the participation of these brands in the international contest. This support not only highlights the superior quality of mezcal from Puebla but also cements its reputation as one of Mexico's finest spirits.
